DAW Summer School

The DAW annual SFlier for Theatre Summer Schol 2010 showing previous students at workummer School is held in August, in Wales.

It is an intensive week of theatrical learning, with like-minded people, and led by some of the country’s leading theatrical practitioners. Content is relevant to the amateur theatre community, but challenges existing habits and nurtures new approaches, techniques and practices.

Sex, Love and Clandestine Relationships in 20th Century Drama tutored by Peter Wooldridge

Initially inspiredSummer School 2010 tutor Peter Wooldridge by Pinter's play "Betrayal", which charts his seven year affair with the television presenter Joan Bakewell, this course will explore the different approaches to sex and sexual relationships in twentieth century drama. Scenes from a variety of plays will be explored, including "Private Lives", "Brief Encounter", "The Blue Room", "The Lovers" and "Les Liaisons Dangereuses". It is intended that a selection of these will be presented in an informal performance at the end of the course.

Peter always introduces acting exercises into his workshops as a means to understanding and approaching the text. These have been tried and tested and have a relevance for the beginner as well as the more experienced performer. There will also be some time devoted to performing on camera.

Acting the Bard tutored by Richard Cheshire

The course will utilise various acting exercises, techniques and methodologies used by leading contemporary theatre directors which are specifically designed to help actors of all ages. The workshops will focus on:
