On a beautiful June evening, a large crowd gathered in the forecourt of Bourglinster castle for TNT’s tenth annual travelling Shakespeare play. This year it was Hamlet, and one of the best productions I’ve seen. With a small cast (seven) and many quick scene, costume and character changes, there is always the temptation to go for the simplest interpretation, and emphasise the humour. This year that temptation was resisted. OK, Rosenkrantz and Guildenstern were played entirely for laughs – although very stylishly. But the Ghost was terrifying, and both Hamlet’s and Ophelia’s anguished descent into mental turmoil were utterly believable. Stir into the mix the opportunity to catch up with the many old friends in the audience, and you have a fine example of
