Background
One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, the play, first premiered on Broadway in November 1963 and is based upon the novel of the same name published in 1962. As many people will know it was subsequently made into an Oscar winning film in 1975.
About the Play
When Randle Patrick McMurphy gets transferred for evaluation from a prison farm to a mental institution, he assumes it will be a less restrictive environment. But the martinet Nurse Ratched runs the psychiatric ward with an iron fist, keeping her patients cowed through abuse, medication and sessions of electroconvulsive therapy. The battle of wills between the rebellious McMurphy and the inflexible Ratched soon affects all the ward's patients.

Notes about the Audition
All auditionees will need to be present at 14:00 and will be required for up to 3 hours. As the play depends strongly on ensemble work, the auditions will take the form of a workshop involving all auditionees and for which no preparation need be done beforehand and no “audition pieces” will be required. Please wear comfortable clothes and trainers/soft shoes.
Due to social distancing restrictions for Covid-19, we ask everyone who wishes to audition to email cuckoo@nwtc.lu so we can get some idea of how many people will be coming. Many thanks for your help in this matter.
Performances
The play will be performed at the Mierscher Kulturhaus in Mersch on Thursday 4, Friday 5, Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 March 2021. There will be an additional performance for school students on Friday 5 March in the morning.
Rehearsals
The rehearsal period will start from mid-October with 2 to 3 rehearsals a week and running throughout to performance with some time off for good behaviour. Only joking! It should read '...with some time off for Christmas and the New Year.'
