About The Event
The Importance of Being Earnest by Oscar Wild is arguably Oscar Wilde’s greatest play. He wrote of it, “It is exquisitely trivial, a delicate buble of fancy, and it has its philosophy... that we should treatall othe trivial things of htelife seriously, and all the seious things of life with sincere and studied triviality.” New World Theatre Club, asbl is excited to bring this classic to life the 13-16 June 2024. The Importance of Being Earnest was first performed in 1895. It is a comedic play that satirizes the conventions and manners of Victorian society. Set in England during the late 19th century, the play follows the lives of two young men, Jack Worthing and Algernon Moncrieff, who adopt fictional identities to escape social obligations. Jack invents a brother named Ernest, while Algernon creates an invalid friend named Bunbury. The plot unfolds with mistaken identities, clever wordplay, and humorous social commentary.
